Delphi receives two 'Social Responsibility Awards' for environmental projects in South America

"Environmental Week" -- a social responsibility program designed by Delphi -- recently received the AEA Environment Award 2008, which is promoted by the Brazilian Association of Automotive Engineering (AEA). The program is targeted for children from public and private schools where company sites are located to help them learn about the causes and consequences of current and future environmental problems. The "Environmental Week" program includes presentations, activities and various celebration events.

The new 2008 theme of "Global Warming" is the most recent project to be introduced to students by Delphi's professionals and by teachers. "The presentations are made in a simple way so that children are able to understand their part in contributing to environmental efforts, and changing the idea that this subject (Global Warming) will not influence their lives in some way," said Klaus Acerbi, Environmental and Safety general supervisor at Delphi South America.

The objective is that these students and employees spread the information received to increase awareness around environmental issues. The "Environmental Week" project began in 2003 and has covered different subjects through the years, including water conservation, the importance of recycling and sustainable development.

Some 400 children were part of the program when it started. Participation has increased annually and in 2007 about 10,000 children participated in the environmental project developed by Delphi, which re-affirms a strong and trustworthy relationship with the community.

Delphi South America was also honored by the AEA (Brazilian Association of Automotive Engineering) Award for its technological contribution in developing projects for preserving and helping the environment. Among some of the technologies that reduce human impact over nature are the multi-fuel technologies for automobiles and motorcycles, Halogen-Free PPO Cable, Electrical-Electronic architecture, Cold Start System, among others.

"All companies must be concerned about the world's future," said Gábor Deák, President for Delphi South America. "Delphi has a team that is always connected to trends and searching for innovation in products with comfort and technology for its users, but also preserving nature."
